Club and Store Evening Fly Tying with Jack Dennis
Jack Dennis Fly Tying All Day Classes for Stores and Clubs
The normal evolution a fly fisher usually includes fly tying sometime along the line. Some take up fly tying to cut the costs of all the flies they seem to leave in bushes and trees everywhere they go. Others want to try it to increase their involvement in the finer details of the sport. No matter what your reasons are, tying flies seems to be an integral part of the whole fly fishing picture.
There have been perhaps more volumes of books and articles written on the art of fly tying than any other aspect of fly fishing. If you subscribe to any of the fly fishing magazines, you have encountered articles that included fly patterns. In fact, a few magazines are dedicated to the art of fly tying. Those magazines will enhance the information you find here and I encourage you to consider subscribing to one or two. You may also want to build your own library of books you find helpful.
I have developed a method to teach my fly patterns to intermediate and advanced tyers. Tyers will tie along with me and learn some new and innovative flies and methods . Tyers should have completed a beginning fly tying class.
I use a video camera projection system to project an image on a screen or wall or use a TV. I have the tyers tie along with me step by step as they view the screen behind me seeing a large tying image in all the detail. I wait and let everyone tie the step before moving on. We will tie some of my newest innovative patterns. They see each step on the screen and duplicate it with their own tools tying along with me with my live instruction. They can ask questions and receive advice on their flies. This has been a proven success since I started doing this several years along.
Materials: I supply all the materials need to do the class except tools, cement and general tying supplies. Tyers must bring lamps (Lights) to tie by.
Location: most of the time stores have tying areas for their classes or have an arrangement at an off store location or since it’s a Sunday many rearrange their store to handle the tables necessary to do the class. Most clubs already have spots they either meet or already hold fly tying classes.
Costs: $75.00 per person

Evening Club Programs
Because of the nature of travel today it is impossible for me to do single club appearances. I have a two day minimum. However there ways to make this work by working with other clubs booking several days or local fly shop sharing expenses and days. I also clubs that are looking to book that I can put you together top make it work even in different states and areas .Also I’m featured in 10 sports show every year and I can do clubs between engagements usually on Monday to Wednesday. My travel costs are paid by the shows.
Lodging and Travel Expenses
I have been doing over a 100 speaking days per year for over the last 15 years and programs for 30 years. I understand the height cost of traveling and its ins and outs. I have always used the cheapest routes and ways to keep expenses low, even working to combine costs with clients to save them money.
Free Goods
I will almost always also have a St. Croix rod for your organization to help defray expenses. The folks at St. Croix have seen the value in having me give a rod away and help them promote the fine qualities of their rods. It’s the rod I fish with and would fish with even if I did not endorse them. The following companies support my efforts:
- Super Fly International
- Umpqua
- Abel Reels
- St. Croix Rods
- Cortland Line Company
- GoFishn.com
- FlyFishTV.com
- Clackacraft Drift Boats
- Frontiers International Travel

About My Programs and Seminars
All of my programs are digital video presentations where I project the image on a large screen or white wall .The programs are fast paced with sound and music. I provide narration and interact with the audience. I bring all my own video projection units and players and need only microphones for my voice and sound.
I take pride in producing the highest quality presentations available in the fly fishing business today and work constantly to improve their content and quality.
